tax credits renewal confused?

last year we earned 12400 between us , wtc stopped? hadent realised this until got an award notice saying wtc 0....our renewal had on it earnings 16000...wrong this year will be 16000...does this mean would be entitled to an underpayment?backdated money etc oh and then we got a notice saying we owed them 3k of which 200 had already been collected ...sent renewal via post two weeks ago payments are still the same,,,and no renewal done yet...
