Travel in and around London

Options
Good Afternoon :j

I am travelling to London this weekend to see a couple of friends. I am staying in the Golders Green where one friend lives nearby and will be travelling to Guildford to see another on Saturday.

Can anyone give me any tips on the cheapest travel option for Golders Green to Guildford return, leaving early am Sat and returning 5pmish?

Any tips / advice / warnings would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
G :) x

I would think Golders Green to Waterloo by tube then to Guildford. The bit on the Northern Line will be cheaper if you have an Oyster Card.

A through ticket from ZONE U123* LONDN to GUILDFORD [GLD] is £26.30 Anytime Day Return (this assumes you go via Woking rather than via Reading). An Off Peak ticket does not appear to be available, therefore I suggest you use Oyster PAYG for the first part of your journey, to Waterloo. (Single fare: £2.50 off peak / £2.90 peak)

A ticket from LONDON TERMINALS (ie, Waterloo in this case) to GUILDFORD travelling after 09:30, is £13.90 Off Peak Day Return.

Actually it may be worth considering using Oyster PAYG to Wimbledon, the fare is the same to Wimbledon as it is to just Waterloo. So, on a Saturday that's £2.50 each way. From Wimbledon an Off Peak Day return (paper ticket) to Guildford is £9.30. This saves £4.60 but you will have a much slower journey. Also at Wimbledon you will have to change trains in order to touch out (on the outward journey) and to touch in (on the return journey). But if you want the cheapest option, this is it!

Many thanks for all your replies and help. I would never have known to get a Oyster Card to make the journey cheaper!

Can I purchase one at the station?

Fabulous, definitely going on the tube / train now instead of taking the car!
