It's against the t&c on most cards these days to put the balance into credit, you may find the funds get returned back to your bank.

Oh, I will double check the t&c's.

    The card conditions state:
11.7 You must not make payments or transfer funds from another credit or store card to your account that would leave a credit balance on your account. We may return any funds that exceed the balance owing on your account to the account from which the money was sent.

Best case scenario: they return the funds to your current account.
Worst case scenario: they do the above and freeze your card.

An alternative would be to pay off the amount due on the day I make a cash withdrawel. I may be charged a days interest but I guess I can live with that.

A days interest - or even a couple of weeks interest - is not going to amount to very much.

If when you leave the UK you have a balance outstanding on the account (and don't have a DD in place that will pay it off whilst you are away) then you can always set up a future dated bill payment for soon after you anticipate making a cash withdrawal to minimise any interest charged. Just make sure that the account does not go into credit.
