Car boot sale vs. ebay

Hi all
We have an awful lot of clothes between us and my husband usually puts the ones we don't want anymore on ebay. However, he's not got round to photographing and listing them for about a year, so the pile of stuff keeps growing. Personally, I'd like to do a car boot, but never having been to one I remember well, I have no idea whether clothes will sell there?
Most of the stuff is branded: Diesel, Hollister, Dune shoes/bags etc. Those things that aren't are from high street shops like Oasis/River Island. He says you'll never get as much for these sorts of items at a car boot as on ebay, but I can't bear to look at the stuff anymore and just want shot of it!
With that in mind: do people sell clothes at car boots? And, if so, will we get an awful lot less for them if we sold them there rather than on ebay?
What other things do people sell at car boots? All I can think of about car boots is that people sell ornaments there, sorry for my ignorance!!

I saw a lot of brand new with tags baby clothes at a boot sale, mainly next and other better brands. The woman on the stall was getting no more than 20p each, people weren't willing to pay more. You'd be better off sticking the higher end designer stuff on ebay and booting the stuff you wouldn't mind getting 50p for.0

50p!! Seriously?! Well if that's what other posters think too then I'll have to set aside some time to photograph and list the items myself. I also clearly need to be going to buy my clothes at car boots from now on if I can grab that sort of stuff at that price.0

If you just want rid, maybe consider selling them on ebay as a job lot. You probably wouldn't get quite as much as selling individually, but definitely more than at a car boot sale.:j30/7/10:j

Definitely stick on ebay, you won't get much at a car boot and even if you put on a ridiculously low price there's always gonna be that cheeky beggar who will happily haggle with you all afternoon!!
I find it easier to list things via Ebays turbolister, I put the descriptions in as & when I can and once my baby girl is in bed I can add the photos and upload what I want on to Ebay. I find it easier to not list more than 5 items at a time depending on size of items, but this is my personal preference as I hate lugging everything to the post office:o
Failing that, if you want new clothes too try looking for one of those clothes swap things, I know there's one website called big wardrobe but google clothes swap and you'll get quite a few results:D1.11.09 - debt = £45k:eek:

Thanks for the advice so far. Also, what else do people buy at car boots? Will kids toys and household type items sell? Are these more the sort of things that people will look for there?0

Hi
I go to quite a lot of car boots and do a few too. Definately household bits and bobs and kids toys. Agree with other posters about the clothes, we always used to come home with the majority we took so don't bother any more.

I have moved house in the last year and have car booted, freecycled, thrown out and ebayed!
I did quite a bit of research - anything and everything will sell at a car boot. It is worth trying before giving away or throwing, certainly. You do, however, need to be realistic about prices - joe public goes to a car boot with a handful of change in their pockets and expects to walk away with a bargain. For this reason, anything designer or high branded (Next upwards is my yard stick) will do better on ebay providing it is in very good condition. Anything obviously unworn or still with labels, regardless of brand, will fetch about half price on ebay (in my experience anyway) but you do have to be aware that if you paid £5 for a t-shirt in Asda and it's going to cost £1.95 to post, people aren't going to be paying more than 99p for it! However, after fees, that's still money in your pocket so not to be sniffed at depending on your financial situation!
Kids toys are hit and miss on ebay. Bundles do quite well, providing the toy is currently popular or is in some way 'vintage' (if you've anything from the 80s, you might be surprised what it's worth now!).
If it's not for ebay, try a car boot and if it doesn't go then, anything clean and in good condition can go to a charity shop. You can also freecycle which I found enormously helpful when moving house - I had a landrover club come and take alway all sorts of rubbish (!!) from my shed which I wouldn't have known what to do with but which they were very happy with! Also got rid of a garage door that way. I also got rid of a few boxes of not so great stuff but which was still useable on freecycle by advertising it as 'car boot stuff' and was inundated with responses.
Ebay is not a quick solution, however. I am still getting rid of things 6 months after starting! It did pay for Xmas this year and is paying for the eldest's birthday party next week so can't complain!0 -

Once you've had someone try and beat (almost literally ) you down to £20 for a pushchair worth at least £180+ second hand, you'll find to pick your items for the boot fairs lest you waste your time and pitch money for nothing.
Very generally, the only clothes I have seen at boot fairs are supermarket brands, maybe older better brands at a push, certainly none of the brands you have mentioned.
Preloved is also a good place to sell clothes, free to use too :money: free ebay listing day was last weekend but they come along quite often. I use local selling groups on facebook too, they don't quite want something for nothing like some booters do but it won't cost to advertise.0 -
I hate ebaying stuff but hate crap boots more!!!
everyone wants everything for nothing.
I'd decide on a weekend when you are both not busy and get sorting and photographing.. then list 10.. have a break.. then another 10... Or download turbolister take it in turns to do a few listings each and get through it all.
I don't think doing the pics is the hard bit.. I hate doing the listings it is so boring and I struggle getting to post office.. currently delegated to OH
I list things in 5's or 10's... I get bored with more.
I am desperately trying to raise cash for house repairs at the moment so trying to get stuff listed so have 16 items on... I am so sick of refreshing the pages lol....
