Computer keeps logging off

Options
my laptop keeps logging off and starting back up in safe mode saying that there was a problem and that windows had not been shut down properly. i have managed to run a scan with avast and defender in normal mode before it did this, but it didnt find anything. now im running a scan in safe mode with malwarebytes, already done a quick scan with defender but again nothing, avast will not run whilst in safe mode so i cant rescan. any ideas what may be the problem.

Do you see it log off, or do you come back to find that it's happened? Have you had any blue screens?

The latest Avast update has been causing crashes if you check the Avast forum. You could check in event viewer for any critical errors, or check in c:\windows\minidump or for the memory dump file c:\windows\memory.dmp.

Should turn Windows Defender off if Avast is running by the way.

Does it happen at a certain time of day? Or a few minutes after being logged in? Or just randomly?

Might not be related to Avast if its not BSODing, but best to followup with http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility if removed.

    Try Hitman Pro and aswMBR:
    www.hitmanpro.nl/
    public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.htm

If the problem is recent, perhaps a system restore would help.

Do you mean the security centre by the way? Post a hijackthis log if you like (run as admin)
