new kitchen floor

hello,

first time on this part of the forum! (never knew it existed :o)

im needing to replace my kitchen floor and wondered if anyone had any tips...

id like it to be black or dark grey. i currently have grey click board down but it chips easily and is a pain to clean.

i have 3 german shepherds so i need something hard wearing, easy to clean and not too slippy - any suggestions? would tiles be a good idea or laminate?

thanks

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Tiles will last longer than laminate, but be more expensive/time consuming to fit. Don't go for a pure black with no colour variation in it as it will show every mark and will almost permanently look dirty, especially with 2 Dogs.
Go for something with a bit of colour variation that will be practical and hide a multitude of sins.

In my kitchen I have aqua step, its plastic laminate, i have it in a grey slatey effect, i really like as it isnt cold like tiles are on my feet and i hate lino. Also as its plastic it doesnt matter how much water/wet dog/mud etc you get all over it!
Also pretty easy to fit, i fitted it with my dad,
I had a dog visiting me and he slipped less on it compared to my laminate in other parts of the house.
I think they can send samples as well for you to have a look at.....

this is where i got mine from..... think you can work out the price, although its not just the square meters as you have to calculate how many sections you need....

nip to the local builder's merchant and ask about self-levelling compound - sort of cement and latex powder mixed together.
We mixed a 25kg bag of it with half a bag of building sand and it can then go on up to 5mm thick [for the big dents].... have a second bag handy in case it doesn't fill all the dents !

Of course, most floor coverings like to go on some kind of underlay, which can help with minor variations but won't mask a concrete version of a lunar landscape.

Depends on how far out of level the floor actually is. pop a long straight edge over it - anything over 10mm and its going to cost you a lot in tile adhesive\self leveller to sort it out.

Go with a riven finish tile and as other posters have said go for a non flat colour. have a look at our site - TradePriceTiles.co.uk, we are still loading products as we have just launched our site but we have been selling tiles from a bricks and mortar shop for years. i'm sure we could furnish you with a discount code :j

i'll post a couple of examples in a mo
