I think that it may not have been a good idea to pay your step daughters debts as she won't have learnt anything. I learnt because of the pain we had to go through to become debt free.

You learn not to put your had in the fire because you get burnt ad it hurts, if someone puts their hand in it doesn't teach you anything. I bet you've learnt not to trust her again?
