  • @Superbiatch - Just read your sig - when i started i was on 43k* As a rough figure Mrs Splash and i paid back between 80K-100k in 8 years. We've never worked out exactly what we paid back, that would truly sicken us.

@everyone else (and Superbiatch :)) Thank you for the kind words. it is worth it and it was worth it, to have a clean slate is dream. I've been with Mrs Splash for 28 years and we've pretty much never had a clean slate. Debt has always been noise in the background. My final loan was paid off in early 2010 - it was the first time i'd not had a loan since 1986.

Good luck to all of you in your endeavours. It is worth it, when your done, everything just seems a little brighter, you have options again, but most importantly it gives you your life back.

I salute you Capt Splash. Well done on getting to the end of the tunnel, it's great to hear about people being in the black, especially after such a long haul.:T

I normally wouldn't advocate frivolous spending, but in the interests of eye health, you may just want to purchase a pair of sunglasses:rotfl:

Best of luck in your new home.

  • Well done that man. Really well done. I too hope to be in a similar position by my 45th birtday so only just over 3 years to go for us.(DMP will be completed)
I too want to sell the house by that time and owe nothing to anyone ever again.
Similar plans really just look to rent and drop out of the expected "Buy" a house and put nice things like foreign holidays on the credit card traps.
Learned the hard way but never ever again.
  • Thanks everyone.

the internet will be down in an hour so i wont get chance to follow the thread until late next week when I'm back on line.

Thank you all for your kind words. Good luck to everyone, it can be done if you are determined and you really want to do it.

    All the best

Well done Capt Splash - just goes to show you anyone can get themselves rid of debt. If only my stepdaughter were as determined as you to rid herself of her debts. Husband and I agreed to take out a loan for her on the promise that she would repay us monthly. Not had anything from her in over 18 months now. Maybe I'll show her your post! Congratulations again and enjoy your new debt free existence.

Its really nice to read success stories on here as oppose to the doom and gloom. I was unlucky enough to get myself in a few thousand pounds debt very young and im still only 22 now. In last 6 months iv cut it from about 4k of debt to about £300 and in few months i'll have cleared all debts be in the black and hopefully restore my battered credit rating.

I was unlucky or more stupid then anything to get in debt so young for stupid things but now iv learnt so much from it and it'll save me from getting in a position in the future which could hav been alot worse had I not had this experience. Capt Splash's story is just one great story of many im sure and proof it can be sorted :)
