Hi there i have a car insurance policy with Aviva and each month £27 comes out of my account direct debit to Aviva, last month i was horrified when they took £122 out, i really can't afford this amount it's my own fault i presume for not looking into updating my car insurance so i presume they've started a new policy at the higher rate.

Is there any possibility i could reclaim this money from them or is it their entitlement?

I'm so angry right now. Can i do anything?

Thanks

Have a read of your docs. That's a massive jump by anyone's book so you need to get that policy stopped if that is what has happened. You should still be able to cancel within the 14 days...
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

They should have sent you a renewal offer a month before, with the new details, and ample opportunity to shop around and refuse if you don't want it.
If they didn't they are in breach of FSA guidelines, and you should have a case with them.

Have you actually bothered contacting Aviva to ask why they've taken this money out?

    You say:
    i presume they've started a new policy

So when is your policy due to renew, last week/month or in 6 months?
    Can i do anything?

    Yes, ring Aviva!

If you don't read the correspondence from your insurer how do you know whether you are still insured and for what level of cover? What if they had written to tell you they were withdrawing from the market and weren't renewing your policy?

Everybody needs to take their car (and other) insurance more seriously that that.

If it is within 14 days of a policy start date you can cancel it, but you will have to pay for the period of cover AND an administration fee. After 14 days, the charge for cancelling will be much higher.

I've always found Aviva to be perfectly OK.

Why don't you open the letters they will have sent you? Or even better, log on to your policy online?

Thanks for your help and replies, i've managed to get an £89 refund! after my partner rang and complained in an abrupt manner.

    Thanks again
