Banking International Codes

Hi I'm not sure if this is the right place or not to post this query.
My brother who lives in south-eastern France want to send me 700 euros via a bank transfer. His bank the Credit Agricole want the international banking code to transfer it from his account to mine in England
I bank with the HSBC and after I asked there on Friday I was given their 'Swift no.' or ' IBAN no.' and was told that is all that was needed.
He went to his bank yesterday (they are open in France until 1.00.o'clock on a Saturday) and was told he also needed the B.I.C. no.,the Bank International No. What do I do now .He wants me to buy him the Europe Tom-Tom sat-nav system ,but I am not going to be able until the cash comes through from france .Unless I go down to see him and pick it up how else can I get the cash transferrd ? Anyone know anything about a BIC no. ?

The BIC is the swift code. EG, co-op bank is CPBK GB22, so HSBC would be something like MIDI GB22 - but I would double check that with the HSBC.

You should find the IBAN and BIC codes on any statement that HSBC have sent you about your account..

The BIC is listed as the 'Branch Identifier Code'

Hi I have just looked at my bank statement and it says IBAN no.GB(75)MIDL************** ,yet when I asked in the bank they gave me a slightly different IBAN no. of GB (97 )MIDL **************and underneath the BIC no as MIDLGB2112C
would it make any difference do you think ?would 75 and 97 be the same do you think.

Swift and BIC codes are two names for the same thing. In reality, just the IBAN number is needed however, as this also contains the BIC/Swift.
