I currently own a Canon 10d that i bought second hand last year, just to see if i wanted to persist with using a DSLR before spending a few hundred pounds on a newer DSLR.
I am now looking at buying a better body, preferably with a decent lens kit as i currently only have a basic lens with limited zoom, but i also have a 50mm lens which i love.
So I am torn, I was looking at the 60D originally, until a canon salesman suggested the 600D as an alternative, as he said it is as good, but made better. But, I am thinking what about saving some money? so im now thinking should i buy this 600d option?

Or the 450D with these 2 lenses? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00170WU8M/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0YZAEW5W75GE8DJVKKP9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128473&pf_rd_i=468294
The 600d is a better body, but is it that much better? i know people with 450D's who like them, obviously the smaller lens is only 18-55mm, and stronger zoom would require changing to the 250mm, which is better than the 180 i'd get with the 600D...
opinions please, and keep explanations simple as i have only been using a DSLR for a year so im still an amateur... do i save £200 or get the better body with 1 lens...?

Another option for you:)
How about the Canon 550D? http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=550d&x=0&y=0
It's basically the 600 without the flip out screen and you save a fair bit.
Both the 550 and 600 have a really good movie mode which I don't think the 450 has (the 500 does have a movie mode but it's not as good). Even if you're not planning on shooting a lot of footage I think it's a feature worth having.0 -
Also, the lenses that they bundle with the cameras do not tend to be the best.
Check the prices for the lenses (and the bodies) you want on camerapricebuster.co.uk
If you are happy with the kit lenses then check on ebay as a lot of people just sell them straight on there after upgrading them.0 -

what a great site, it has the 550d with those 2 lenses for £750ish which looks great... I think the basic lenses will do me for now as i am still learning, the key thing i want to get first is a much better body that is not so heavy (the 10D weighs a ton!) and is a little easier to use0 -

It's extremely heavy for a start, plus i want to get into editing more, and have been told that having a camera that can handle more memory means you can shoot in RAW mode, where the 10D can only have 2Gb memory card. I would like video mode, something i didnt realise the 450d doesnt have, and it's difficult to preview photos on the 1 inch screen.0 -
The 60d is the same sensor as the 7d, I would research noise at low ISO first, many quote that they have had images rejected by stock library's as as having high noise levels shot on low iso where you would not expect noise such as iso 100- iso 400, hence why E.bay is in abundance with used 7d's hardly a month old, however the cameras have a army of what I would only call deniers to the situation who appear to be happy to spend hours using software to reduce noise where you had none on the "old" camera.
The 50d is a good upgrade without the low iso noise issue.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

The reason I was asking about your limitations is that I've had my camera for about 3 years so now appreciate what I want from an upgrade (bracketing, higher ISO, swivel live-screen preview). Just wanted to make sure you will be happy with your new camera for a few years to come.
I'm sure you know that a better camera body does not automatically mean better photos. I'm not trying to talk you out of upgrading, just make sure you know what specs you are looking for.
The 550D mentioned above has good reviews, and should see you through a good while as you develop your skills. It will be a lot lighter than your 10D (~500g compared ~850g).0 -

I think you'd be much better off keeping the current body you have and spending that money on higher quality glass. You already picked off the nifty fifty which is a great budget lens, so now consider what kinds of things you want to shoot more.
Landscapes? Invest in a good wide angle lens (not necessarily an easy task with 1.6 crop factor). Telephoto? Canon 70-200mm F4 L (non IS). Macro? Tough to beat Canon's 100mm. Flash photography? Plenty of options there. You'll develop more skills faster by concentrating on lens and composition rather than the technology a new body brings.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
