Setting Up An Internet Business

Hi all;

I’m after as much information as possible:

I have an idea for a web site but like so many people I’m short on allot of the information need to move forward with it.

I’m after some advice in terms of:

How do I go about finding someone reputable at the right price to build it, with continued after care? The thing I’m concerned with at the moment is that I don’t want to have huge expenditures whilst I’m still only in the planning stages.

It’s one thing to have a concept, it’s another to make it into reality, as well as understand how to put T&C’s and disclaimers on there. Is this something I just need to think about and write or are there places I can go to with this already done or at the very least guidelines on how to do it?

From here assuming I get this site up and running what do I need to know and understand to run it properly. i.e. tax information, holding peoples information securely.

Assuming I even get this far. How do I go about making money from advertising? I will have a target audience and don’t want to advertise any old rubbish like you see on allot of site. How do I draw the right advertising in??

From all the questions asked. Is there a single central place to get all the answers or is it a case of searching and finding the answers gradually.

    Hi

I had a similar idea last year about starting website design but I had no idea at all but with the help of a few internet tutorials and vides on Youtube managed to learn

For the coding, download the excellent free Notepad++ from

    http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

    For learning .. use

    http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp

    http://www.htmldog.com/guides/htmlbeginner/

or using this Youtube series ... it's vg

You could employ a designer but judging by some of your other questions, you may still be a fair bit away from officially starting the business.

    Good luck anyway !

My idea involves two different type of users.

The first is someone with items to be reviewed (This will be multiple people with many items).

The second will be someone who logs in has an account and can search through all the items, select and review (they can do this more than once on the same item from the same person) and a record will be kept on their account. This record will build up with time.

They will be able to search through the site and their own accounts through a variety of filters.

    Please excuse my slight vagueness....

a good place to start looking for a designer is http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56

regarding TOS/disclaimers. look online for the same type of businesses you are wanting to start and look at their TOS/disclaimers and copy these and then tweek to suit your own business and then you can ask your local trading standards to take a look over them to make sure they comply with the law

Sounds like you could get the starter functionality put together fairly simply with a framework such as Drupal (which is free and flexible - but requires a bit of experience to get the most from)

Sorry, this post was probably not terribly relevant.

Drupal isn't for a pretty dumb website, but could drive the functionality specced in post #4 with very little if any custom code (but it would take some configuration from someone experienced). Custom code is what costs BIG money!
