At ours we didn't have lots of young children after 8-9pm they all vanished home they had the sweets to take away with them . I think we opened the table about 8ish so not to early. Our sweetie table was quite relaxed and not to formal i didn't add matching ribbons etc. None of our guests had heard of them at weddings and all the adults thought it was great fun idea. The popping candy was a big draw!

They don't need to be expensive at all. I have just got most of my sweets and chocolate for mine today and they came to £23. That was for tubs of jelly babies, sour stars, gummy rings, disco discs, rainbow sticks, mixed haribo jellys, maoam stripes, 20 cadburys cream eggs, 10 aero lambs. I have filled up 8 jars so far, and have enough sweets left over to fill at least another 6! My sweets mostly came from Bookers Cash and Carry, or Asda.
The jars were £1.20 each from Asda or £1 for the some kilner like jars. In all its cost me less that £35! Just get to get some scoops now and luckily have been given a load of paper bags by a friend. But like someone said you can get them quite cheaply off ebay.
It all depends on what you want. Obviously the 'posher' sweets are going to cost more.
