Never had a bank account...Help

Hi new to the forum, just joined for a bit of advice really.
For the last fifteen years my wages have been payed into my Girlfriends account.
We split up 2 months ago and i really need to get my self a bank account, only problem is on paper i don't really exist.

I have never had a loan, never had a contract phone, Bills and everything were always in her name, infact as far as credit goes i have never needed it.

I have a drivers license, passport, and national insurance number, but apart from my Dr's records i can't really prove where i have lived at all because i have never been one to vote.

I have a couple of years worth of wage slips but as the years go by i just throw them away.

Reason i am posting this is my friends all say it's going to be very hard for me to get a bank account never having credit which i find unbelievable.

...but is it true.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Should have made this a bit more clear.
My wage slips are not really wage slips as such, they just have a name on them and contain cash every week...

My girlfriend would then pick up the package and deposit the money in her account...

I can't prove i ever had a Girlfriend, nobody knows where she is and her account is closed, but i do have a substantial amount of cash to deposit in a bank account.

In a nut shell my Employer does not exist ether and i am running out of places to put my money.

Ive seen a house i like but i can't even buy that, need a bank account because it's over £600,000.
Told the estate agent i'll buy it cash and he said it was fine, but then when he saw i ment pay by cash he said he could not accept this much money without a bank account.

Most bank accounts will credit check you and may reject you as you will have no credit rating.

However you will definitely be able to get a basic bank account and a passport and driving license should be enough to open one.

With a driving licence and passport, you should be able to get a basic bank account. The driving licence contains your address and can act as proof of this.

I think the bank will get suspicious if you pay £600,000 cash into a brand new account!!

Buy me an iPad and you can use my account :D;) lol

But seriously, as stated above you'll be able to get some sort of account no problem with what you've got as account sensitive info, cards etc. are all posted, so the fact you get them is proof enough of address.

I'd make sure you have your full wage slips handy, as you're very likely to be asked where the funds are from... and while you've no obligation to tell the bank staff; they do have an obligation to report suspicious transactions; the individual can be sent to prison if they don't. But the police or fraud squad could be involved, as long as you can show where the money came from in your payslips, this shouldn't cause a problem.

you have £600,000 just stuffed under your bed?

Ive only ever experienced this in russia, where they bring suitcases worth of rubles to you :D

When I was selling my house in Slough 4 years ago, Mr Khan came to my front door with a brief case full of large denomination notes within a couple of hours of the For Sale sign being erected. Not Roubles though....

And it never occured to you that in savings it would have made you at least 60k in interest over 4 years...

Your employer doesn't exist....? £600,000 worth of under the table work? Wow.

If it find it a bit questionable, a bank certainly will!! I don't really know how you can bank that? If you bank that much, there must be a trigger to say you must have proof of where it came from?

I'm actually just a bit jealous that you have over £600,000.....!!!
