IKEA kitchen planner v instore prices

Hello all,
Just a quick question about the IKEA kitchen planner. I've used it to sketch out the kitchen I want, but there are a few things on there I can't do - funny shaped corners for worksurfaces, that sort of thing, which I am expecting to cost me extra in store.
My question is, how does the price given by the planner match up to the final price you ended up paying for the kitchen? A workman who came round to give a quote for fitting told me I'd have to have special heat resistant stuff on either side of the oven, which isn't on the planner. Are there more things like that?
And has anyone used IKEA's own kitchen fitters (we're in Twickenham, store's in Wembley)? Do they do stuff like sort out the electrics (we'll need a few new sockets) or are they just for assembly?
All advice gratefully received!

Don't use their fitters, they are well over-priced!
I don't know what the "workman" is talking about with the heat resistant stuff though, you don't need to put anything extra in at the sides of the oven, just fit the other carases in to suit.
What do you mean by "funny shaped corners"?
Can't help you on the pricing though, can't say i've ever tried to price one of their kitchens. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Ah yes, the funny shaped corners.
There's one corner which the planner must have put in because they foresaw the invention of fitted kitchens and wanted to make everything that little bit more complicated.
It you imagine a normal corner, then extend it with a diagonal triangle, it's similar to that, so bigger than a normal corner. It's not even a triangle, it has four edges, but the closest I can describe it is a triangle. I think there might be a problem with the worksurface, whoever fits it might have to do a bit of a jigsaw at that point.0 -
I got my kitchen from Ikea last year, and have been very pleased with it. Although I was aware that using their fitters was by no means a cheap option, I was glad that I did both from the point of view of the hassle for me of trying to organise the different trademen and from the point of view of the standard of their workmanship. Although the fitters themselves only really dealt with joinery aspects they arranged all the extras like gas fitters, electricians.
I live in a sandstone semi dating from 1900, and the walls/floors are by no means uniform. In particular, the utility room floor has a slope which meant they had to incorporate a height difference between the 2 ends of the sink ov over 5cm! After they came out before I ordered it to check all my measurements, they went away and produced amended plans and specs. When I went in to order it, I just gave that to the sales people at Ikea and they dealt with all the paperwork. After the fitting was finished, I was left with a few shelves and worktop trim, and just took these back to Ikea for a refund.
I only had one issue after it was finished, with a kickboard which was springing up, and the fitters came out and dealt with it immediately0 -
Thanks for that Kayl.
One question - when the IKEA fitters gave you a price, did it include electric and gas, or was it just for the assembly and fitting of the units?
Also, did they do that in store or did they have to come round to give you the final quote?
Sorry for quizzing you!0 -
I have just completed an Ikea kitchen and the price on the planner was almost exactly the same as I was charged in store. I didn't use Ikea worktops though as they didn't have the colour/pattern I wanted. I bought bushboard.0

Ah great markdavey, thanks for that.
I am trying to work out exactly what we can afford, so knowing the price generated by the kitchen planner is close to the final price helps a lot!0 -
Bear in mind that it adds stuff that you will probably never use (the Dishwasher drip tray is one that springs to mind) and when the guys process your design in house, they will add things as well that you will have missed (cover panels etc.).
I ended up taking a load of stuff back at the end of the job tho'0 -

I am waiting on Ikea to deliver and fit my kitchen. I used their planner to come out and measure and she checked what would need to be moved with the plumbing and the electrics. That service was £100 but this is deducted from the final bill from Ikea when used in conjunction with the Ikea Family card
They then give you 3 prices:
A.The Kitchen (units etc)
B.Ikea's Fitting (Assembly and fitting of the units)
C.Additional Works etc (this is for the wiring plumbing making walls good etc
Im due the delivery next week and fitting the following week so I keep you posted of how it goes
