Help with CarerS Allowance please...

Hi,

Can anyone help with this please..

Ive been caring for my mother in law for a while now for well over 35 hours a week and someone advised me before to claim carers allowance for her.

Ive checked and am eligible BUT she gets Attendance Allowance and Industrial Injuries Allowance, my worry is that if i claim would she lose some or all of the Industrial Allowance? I cant seem to find the answer and i dont want to claim if she is going to lose this.

Thanks .

I THINK it is only certain premiums paid with income support or pension credit that would be lost but someone will correct me if im wrong

She certainly won't lose the Attendance Allowance. My parents both get AA and CA, although the CA is reduced to an "underlying entitlement" rather than the whole amount because they are pensioners.

    I don't know about IIA.

I'm not sure what you mean by industrial injuries allowance, but if it's Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit that wouldn't be affected as it's not a means tested benefit.

Does she get any means tested benefits e.g. pension credit? That could be affected if you claimed. You would need to do (or get) a benefits check.

Hi, thanks for your help, yes it is Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit and Attendance Allowance, she doesnt get any Pension credit or housing or council tax benefit or any other Credits/Benefits.

So it looks like she wont lose any money then?

No, she shouldn't lose any money in those circumstances.
