7k  to TC (claimed for 2 kids, plus I get DLA M&L)
Stupid person missed a digit when we first claimed last year... instead of putting in 28k they put in 8k (hubbies wages 2010/2011 this includes his company car too?).. Weird because we filled in a form and sent it off, and that's where they got the figures from, was not my mistake as hubbies HR department checked it too.. And me being me I don't remember getting a confirmation letter, If I did I would of defo spotted the mistake and rung them asap. I have searched everywhere and can not find this letter.
So they overpaid us by that amount... Knew it was to good to be true..
They also told me they owe us £782 for this year 2011/2012, then under that saying about financial hardship.
I rung them and told them not to pay us anymore and to use that money to pay of their mistake! She told me she had to refer it to her manager and they will call me sometime this week. We also put away in separate account the 4 high payments they paid us last week nearing £800 .
Wow how long will this take to pay off? I feel so stupid! And now worrying over money, I started work last August but only part time (6k yr). Am in !!!! street now!

I feel you have to relax, initially people will say you must of known it was too good to be true as you say.
if you are still entitled to tax credits they will recover the overpayment through this years award meaning continue to apply and if you receive nothing at least you know you are paying your debt.
If you don't renew as a lot of people do in these circumstances when feeling let down by the system it will become a priority debt which you need to pay asap as they will have a lot more authority when asking for it back.
REAPPLY....Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Poor you DarylD. I can imagine how you feel. My parents applied for tax credits a few years back after my Dad suffered a heart attact and was out of work sick.
We gave tco all the correct info - It was actually me who sorted it all out for them - and yet when it came time to renew tco said that my Parents owed back EVERY PENNY OF TAX CREDITS THEY HAD RECEIVED !
We were livid as we knew that we had done nothing wrong.
We arranged to pay it back at about £20 just to get the ball rolling as my Parents are "old school" and dont like debt but we appealed the decsion and we took it all the way , getting our local Mp involved. As it turned out , after fighting it for 2 years , my Parents were cleared off all "wrong doing" by tco and it turned out that they were not at fault at all. Every penny they had already paid was returned to them.
OP , I understand that you dont have much room to appeal as tco would say that you should have carefully checked your award notice and realised that income was listed at £8k instead of £28k but to all who are reading this thread let this serve as a way of drumming it home just home important it is to check and double check that the information recorded on the award notice you receive is accurate !
I know I do lol.The loopy one has gone :j0 -
I had similiar experience regarding income. I noticed that my provisional income was wrong this year. I called up and explained. The person amended it and my renewal as it had not been processed yet. Thank god i checked as my income changed by a lot since last yesr and could have been a mess. My payments will go down this year and I expect this. Just want the final award to come through so I van see in black and white everything is correct. Anyone know why its taking so long.0
