Talk Talk don't want to Talk.

I called Talk Talk in November for information about their services in my area and during the call it became apparent Talk Talk wasn't for me, I've just seen on my credit report that they did 2 credit checks on the same day. I didn't give them permission to do a search nor was I advised that they wanted to do a search.

I've written to them to explain the situation and ask to have the searches removed, they've replied today to say "Kindly be advised that credit checks are done when a person calls in asking for information about our services. Our agents do advise callers".

What can I do? I didn't want or give permission for this... I've called them today, after getting the letter they passed me to 6 different people just to be told to write in again.
If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x

Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • I've already followed their complaints procedure and written to them explaining the situation, their response was that it is company policy to preform a credit check on people even if all they're calling for is information.

I'll look in to the ICO.

Does TalkTalk need our permission to use CR agencies? Wouldn't it be better to complain to the people who compile and sell our credit ratings? I didn't give my permission to Experian or Equifax to hold that data about me.

    Hi thepurplegoldfish,

did you call sales or perhaps the new lines team? Our new lines team would run a credit check and do advise as part of their script that the check will be run.
