pre-qualification most lawyers will be on something in the high teens. Not sure what the law soc min is now. On qualification (two years later) this will jump to low/mid 20s. After a couple of years they should be earning 25-35k, depending on the type of work. Unless anything sparkling happens or you get into a magic circle firm this is what you are looking at. More senior 'average' lawyers might be 40-50k.
No investment banking where the salaries might have six zeros will be a little better.
