Hi Everyone,
im doing a little research before i jump in. Im looking to build up a 500L salt water aquarium and stock it with lots of corals fish, invets etc.
I have many little tanks with variouse corals in to populate a new big tank.
My worry is the fact that i have lots of moneys worth of corals that could easily die if a tank got smashed or ever theifed. Many of my corals would be worth well £100 and when combined could run into thousands.
I was only insureing my car the other day when i wondered whether there was a pet insurence to cover any unforseen events. Ive looked at a few insurences but havent come across aquarium cover.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Andy

I think you will find most home contents insurances cover glass items, i.e. the aquarium itself. Check with your insurer whether you already have this and if it would actually extend to the value of the contents.0

Hi there,
Yes, that was what my general thinking is to be honest. Ive seen many hobbyists loose there tanks, only to claim just the equipment back. The big problem is, the equipment is probably only as little as 10% of what your loosing, hence why i was looking for a pet plan of some sort.
Thanks for your help

When the front of our tank blew suddenly our contents insurer replaced the tank and cabinet the same day and all the flooring and other damage that week. The man that came out was absolutely fantastic - we had our fish in every available cup and bowl because it was a big tank. It was a good make, and less than a year old. I wouldn't have even thought of the house insurance if the avon lady hadnt been round at the time and she suggested it. They actually replaced it with a lovely posh one and gave us extra money for fish - although luckily we didn't lose any. With Sparkles! :happylove And Shiny Things!0

Could you not do what I am doing. ? Put £? a side each month into an account for your own insurance. ? (We put £24 a month) And also check with your home insurance about adding your tank?0

You are going to have to ring around the insurers and see whos offering what
Most will offer cover to the tank and water damage but not livestock
Ive done a wee search and it appears that AA will cover corals but as I said - ring around0 -
And don't forget to ensure the building can take half a tonne of water plus tank and equipment in a small area, or you could end up claiming on the buildings insurance as well.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
