Finding a pet sitter

Hi all
Me and the hubby are trying to book our honeymoon (only two years late!) and are facing the dilema of what to do with our two cats.
they are rescues who are of a very sensitive nature and are terrified of cats/people/outside spaces/anything that doesn't come in their normal day to day chaos!
at christmas my neighbour looked after them but she is elderly and not to steady on her feet and we don't like to put on her to much.
Cateries are not where are looking to go because of the nature of the cats so we are wondering about a cat sitter. Does anyone know where they find one? i have seen adverts around but not sure where to go with this.

You can check the National Association of Registered Petsitters website at http://www.dogsit.com/ to find petsitters in your area. Member organisations have to be registered and insured. EDIT It seems it now costs money to view their register (I could have sworn it was free when I last used it). Rather than pay money, just check that any petsitters you consider using are members of the NARP.
When choosing a petsitter, you should ensure that both you and the sitter are comfortable both together and with your pets. In my experience, a good petsitter will be willing to spend time with your pets before the actual dates that they will be looking after them so as to not be unfamiliar to the pets when they "move in" for the time you are away. Some petsitters will also be willing to send you daily updates on how your pets are doing.
As for petsitters themselves, it is fairly standard that they provide their own food, towels and bedding while they are there, although I've always ensured that the essentials are in the fridge, just in case.0 -
thanks
i am actually just looking for someone to pop in and visit, having a person staying would cause the boys more distress.
will have a look on that website thanksCrafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0 -

Ah, I see.
In that case, you're best looking for pet visiting services, although most petsitters will offer pet visiting as well but there are more pet visitors than petsitters so you may find a wider range of possibilities.0 -
Go and ask in your vets
Many of the nurses there will pop in twice a day for you for a fee0 -
OP- you do nto say where you are?
The ladies that look after my dog/cats do offer cat visiting too - in addition to dog walking, dog boarding, puppy classes etc etc
But they are in east London - if any good, PM me and will give you their details.0 -

thanks guys hadn't thought of asking in the vets!
Unfortunately I am in North Suffolk so not sure they would do the commute!!!!Crafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0 -
I use a franchise in Blackpool, from https://www.gbpetsitters.co.uk, when we're away and can thoroughly recommend our lady, do they have any near you??
she just pops in to feed mine, and check all is ok0 -

Might be of some use, I'm sure if they do not cover your part of Suffolk then they may tell you who does.

If I lived near you, I would do it. I have two people that come in to see to my cats. They won't take money so I buy them gifts. Both are trusted friends. Can you think of anyone else close by that you could ask? You could try a local cat rescue centre if you have one near enough. Or a vet as someone mentioned. Ideally you want someone who lives round the corner.
