PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

This is the link someone posted earlier on in the thread. From that it seems he is talking absolute rubbish regarding the police. The police will only turn up if there is likely to be a breach of the peace. It seems your landlord can't evict you without giving you a section 8 and taking you to court. Then he'd have to win and appoint bailiffs - they are not the police.
You might want to give Shelter a call if you're concerned. He can of course go and speak to his solicitor - hopefully his solicitor will tell him exactly what he can and can't do.

If he evicts us are we liable to pay the rest of the rent in the tenancy agreement?
