HP laptop keyboard problem: n = n5, 6 = b5. How do I fix that?

Options
I have an HP G61-110SA laptop and tonight the keyboard has gone funny. When I press b or 5 it displays "b5" rather than just "b" or just "5". Similarly when I press n or 6 it displays "n6". The keyboard settings seem okay and I tried resetting the laptop and pressing num lock. Looking on Google, someone had a similar problem and bought a new keyboard for their PC but this is a laptop. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and that worked okay. The laptop is out of warranty. It is a repair job or is there anything I can do to fix it?
