Changing ISP to BT

Options
Hi,

I'm changing ISP from Pipex to BT - okay maybe its a bad move but lets not go there please.

Hos does this work then? I've never changed before.

I have my Homehub

I have my login and password.

The date its live is today 23rd May

I'm still using Pipex to post this.

So the question:

Can i just log on to my router and change the login and password to BT and see if I can logon?

OR

Do I just swap my old router for the BT Homehub and logon with that?

Okay I know I'm going to use the Homehub but all I'm asking, just so as we are clear - can I just use my existing router to check I can laccess the internet with my new BT login and password?

Cheers

fj

Yeah, that should work, but you will know when you are a BT Broadband customer because Pipex will immediately cut you off!

You could do that, too, once you have been handed over to BT.

Yes! It won't matter which of the two routers you use to connect with BT.

Have they migrated you yet? If not, do a last speed test with Pipex to compare against your new BT service.. Also take a note of the line sync speed in the router's statistics webpage. It probably won't change, but you might find that your old router performs better than the new HomeHub from BT. Also check that BT FON isn't enabled by default.. (search the forum for previous comments...)

Good luck.. Hope you enjoy your BT service. Not many do!

Yep, been doing speed tests for a while now, thats why I'm changing - also my thinking is with BT if I complain they can't go and blame anyone but themselves - i.e. no third party ISP company involved, also would like to migrate to infinity when it arrives here in the southwest.

Doesn't Pipex just piggy back directly off BT's equipment?

According to Wikipedia, Pipex was bought by Tiscali in 2007, and then in 2008, Tiscali was bought by TalkTalk.

So depending on the LLU status of the local exchange, the DSLAM may belong to TalkTalk or it may belong to BT.
