Tesco were doing an under counter fridge last weekend for £104. However, Comet have two clearance warehouses in the U.K. Also, go to electrical shops & look for ex-display/clearance stuff.

Carpets - again shop around. The large carpet shops have remnants or look at laminate flooring - you can get that pretty cheap.

Good Luck & all the best

If this is a new build, shouldn't you be getting carpets/flooring included?? I'd be surprised if not.

As for phones/internet/sky - each to their own. Personally I like Plusnet, but depends what you want. Have a look at threads concerning phones/sky/etc on this website

We requested incentives but they couldnt give us any as the house wasnt finished they were basically offering incentives for houses that had been completed ie to sell them quicker, they offered us a complete, they offered us another completed house and they could have given us carpets to be honest they wouldnt have been the best quality carpets, just had aquick look at comet auction some good stuff on there although some to have heavy dents scratches

As long as the dents and scratches don't show their presence is unimportant. In the past, we have actively gone out looking for shop soiled/ dented appliances.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

i got an excellent fridge off freecycle - it was in amasing condition and completely free!

I too am moving into a house and i was hoping to decorate it on the cheap (its not a new build) i have been thinking about small decorations i can make to add to my new home:

    • Garden decs - wrapping twigs together and cutting them into shape and adding string> was thinking of doing heart/star shapes. you can entwine the sticks or simply glue them together. you can add ribbons or beads to decorate. i have actually seen these in the shops for 2.99! so save yourself a bit and go foraging!
    • Movie room - we are hoping to make a room into a movie room and so was thinking of getting old video covers of classic films and having them framed as little pictures
    • Picture frames - i use snapfish.com for doing copies of our holiday pics (you can buy them with frame) and are excellent quality, they do albums, mugs, tshirts whatever
    • Painting - its amazing how a lick of paint can transform old furniture. i find carboots are best as they ask really small prices (usually) for furniture (esp glass/mirrors) as they dont wanna risk breaking them/taking them home again. ive picked up some tables and cupboards for a mere 50p - some of them are ok, but some benefit from a bit of white paint and stencils
    • papering -similiarly i have used wallpaper/fablon to redecorate furniture - some old wardrobes have been brought to life and modernised by a roll of modern wallpaper, even small things can look good (and you can take samples from B&Q for free!)
Just a few little tips for making a home your own! (ps. kids love helping with the above too!)

You can get fire alarms free from firestations, and lightbulbs free from energy efficient websites (they are usually samples)

Ive also found sofas/hoovers etc in the local paper here we have 'cash in' on a tuesdays -its free to put things in and everythings under 100 quid. sofas are bulky and people tend to want to get rid of them quick. ive seen tonnes of leather sofas on freecycle - (although i live in blackpool i also check surrounding areas like preston and lancaster etc) keep your eye open.

  • Hiya, I'm afraid I can't help on all but for the carpet fitting try these guys - https://www.carpetfittingquotes.co.uk You just tell them once what you are after and local fitters will battle for youro job so you get the best quote. I would suggest using these first to find out what real people will quote then check out the big boys to see how they compare. Quite often the large carpet places employ local fitters to install the carpets but add on their own charge for the privilege. Cut out the middle-man and get a cheap price early doors.

Get signed up to one of the cashback sites - I use Quidco. Then use them for signing up to the likes of Sky, BT, insurance etc. You will get some much welcomed cashback.

Go local for your carpets/flooring but shop around. Get a couple of quotes and barter them down. Remember to get the best underlay you can afford, it prolongs the life of the carpet on top.

Go to Ikea for utensils, china, lights and lamps etc.

Avoid any of the 'sheds' for MDF/chipboard veneer furniture and instead go to auction houses and seek out quality solid wood furniture, probably have to get the fabric recovered. But for less money you'll have staff that looks for more classy and lasts.
