Self Employment Credit

Hi

Have been on SEC for 7 weeks now - £50 per week.

I'm expecting an '8 week phone call' this week - anyone know what this is all about ?

to check that you are still working, doing more than 16 hours a week, creating some means of income etc etc

Thanks, but I have't actually earned any money yet ....

How do I prove that I'm working more than 16 hours per week ?

I think you might, perhaps, be mistaking self employment credit (SEC) for some kind of tax credit like WTC. It's not, and there are no such hard requirements.

You just need to take along a record of your accounts, what you've earnt, what you've spent etc. That is if they actually get in touch with you. I've now been on SEC for nearly 16 weeks and after promises of help, support and reviews at week 6, 8, and 14, I haven't heard a single thing from the JCP since I was talked into signing off JSA...

    OK, thanks ....

They sent me a letter on day one advising me that they would be contacting me after 8 weeks by phone to check that I was still in Self Employment ....

I am, but I can't prove it via income as I haven't gained the contract I'm working on yet !

I have receipts for petrol etc !

Perhaps they won't phone me, who knows !

I finally received a letter, had to go to the Job Centre to show that I am self employed - took a few copy emails re. meetings etc., and some invoices from the trainline.com re. travel to and from meetings ....

Wait and see whether they're happy !

I have claimed SEC, its a new system from last year I gather.

You have to be doing at least 16 hours per week, can be averaged.

Last year you was required to prove you was creating some sort of revenue.

I gave them upto date book keeping showing revenue and costs, plus invoices I had issued, also so photographic evidence.

They didn't dig deep and where easy to satisfy that I was actively working at 8 weeks, I never got a second reveiw.

If they have already been paying you SEC, you will have that on your income sheet.

Maybe you could have a projection sheet including when you expect you current work to be compleate and the invoice issued.

Every business differs, but essentially with SEC your best off doing all the back ground work whilst claiming JSA(declaring upto 16 hours unpaid work a week), then switching to SEC as soon as you have work that will produce income and then you can start doing more than 16 hours. That is in my opinion.

Should you not be rolling after the 16weeks, sign back on(you can still do upto 16 hours of whatever, quotes, marketing etc) untill you get work that is going to bring in income.

Right now I can't get a job, I do the required to claim JSA, i'd be much better off working, but I could question my self if I have already hit the point of giving up trying.

Whatever you do, give it all you have got, because its horrible looking back and thinking you didn't push when you had that little extra help.
