Washing Machine Failure

Hello all

We have a new washing maching of 8 weeks old, which was working fine until a couple of days ago and now not so much, its a cold fill washing maching and it would seem the water is not heating up.

As the machine is only 8 weeks old are we entitled to ask for an exchange rather than a repair?

Thanks

Fiona

The SOGA's a bit inconclusive on who has the right to suggest what's the most appropriate. You can ask, but the company can reject your request if they deem another option to be more suitable. Why not try the repair anyway? It might be something really straightforward, and quicker to fix (in your home) than to source and deliver another one.

You're always entitled to ask, but the store (after 8 weeks, certainly) are entitled to reject that and offer a repair.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

thanks for your replies, just had engineer out and machine has been written off, so do I have to accept same make and model as replacement as pretty loathe to as this failed so quickly after purchase.

Another vague one. If you can argue that this model is prone to a particular fault, you might be able to persuade the retailer to replace it with a similar specced and priced one. However, if it's a one-off failure and unlikely to happen again, then a straight replacement is probably appropriate. Did the engineer say anything? Such as 'oh, these machines are forever doing that'? Could you give it a google to see if it's a common fault?

Would help if you named the company you purchased it from as that would tell us what their past and current processes are

The remedy will be whatever the retailer decides, a replacement of the same model is appropriate as you cannot argue on a sample size of one that this model is inherently flawed in design.
