How do you separate back from seat of reclining chairs.

We have four reclining armchairs (manual) and I remember when we bought them the back somehow slotted into the seat, but I'm damned if we can discover how the mechanism releases them as they are being sold.

Mounted on both sides of the back frame is a steel shoe with has a inbuilt spring clip, comming up from the rear of the seat are two steel bars that slide into the shoes.
Now if you crouch down behind the chair and feel between the back and arm you should feel the clip pull it outwards and push up the back up a inch or so then do the same on the otherside.
It might help if you fully recline the chair as on some makes you might see the fittings.

Some of them just lift out...

Stand behind the seat, grasp firmly the back of the chair at the sides. Lift in a smooth but firm manner, up and back. You need to lift in the same 'plane' as the rake of the back of the chair.

If it's a certain make try 'Google'

Thank you, tomorrow we will endeavour to carry out your tips, I'll let you know............as they say.

One day later and success, thanks again. I must say I was reminded of the late Larry Grayson when we said "oh, look at the muck in here", it wasn't much, but at least it's gone now.
