The short answer is yes, providing you are insured to drive the car in the UK.

You don't mention whether you are planning to stay permanently in the UK. If you are keeping the car on British roads, the car needs to be re-registered in Great Britain via the DVLA.

Either call in for advice at your nearest DVLA Local Office or telephone DVLA on 0300 790 6802.
• Thank you for your help, i will be returning to the Republic of Ireland sometime later this year.

You've got six months (from memory), perhaps longer if you have a ROI address.

Yes, and probably paying much more reasonable German insurance premiums. Of course the owner takes it back to Germany every 6 months. :p

OP as long as you're insured (back in Ireland) and the company is ok with the period you are staying here you have nothing to worry about immediately. You need to think about what you're going to do with it though in the long term...

The car needs to be registered (numberplate) and taxed, and insured in the country you live in. If that's 7 months in the UK and 5 in ROI, it should be a UK car...

I thought that was the amount of time you can run on a foreign licence before taking the test in the UK?

I believe that is also correct. I notice another poster concurs. You can get away with both for six months (I think) but then have to re-register/licence in the UK. You'd be committing an offence if you didn't.
