How can I tell which walls need plastering?

Options
Ok, may seem like a silly question. The house we are looking to buy had a survey done which stated that the walls would need platering. How can I tell which walls this is, do I just tap all the walls to see if it crumbles??

If it's not obvious by bits being missing then I'd suspect there are loose patches which are no longer stuck to the wall. If you tap them they sound hollow as opposed to solid. Not an easy concept to get across in writing.

Tap on the wall and if it sounds hollow on patches (not everywhere) its time to get a hammer and a plasterer, In reallity the wall will probably be fine even if has pathes of loose plaster but over time it could become a problem with chunks falling off when you renew skirting boards etc
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

When I had some loose plaster it had little cracks in it and bulged out slightly. You could tell it had come away from the wall and was hanging on for dear life! The tapping and hollow sound was the same for that too, sometimes it crunches if it's loose behind wallpaper as well.
