Tax Credits, Child Care stinks

My Daughter owns her own home, Her boyfriend is self employed and she has been out of work since 09, she is doing a childcare NVQ at a nursery and gets a disgusting £100 per week on an apprentiship basis, She has a 2 year old son and the tax credits have said as she is not on minimum wage she can not claim childcare, Is this correct as she is working 8 - 6 mon - fri, This is ridiculous how are people suppose to get back into the workplace.

I have had people on apprenticeships before and I dont think £100 pw to be trained and study an NVQ is disgusting.
She is training in a, presumably, new career - what did she expect remuneration wise?0 -
ok so she isnt entitled to tax credits help with her childcare but has she researched other possible options? Tell her to contact the local CAB, or do a bit of research online to see if she can get help towards a nursery place for her child.
She may be better off doing her qualification through a local college, where she may well get free nursery placement for her child while she is in college. Congratulations to her for doing something to improve her career prospects, it isnt always an easy decision to make when you have children. Good luck xx:EasterBun

I too was in this situation several years ago and looked into getting help with childcare from the college that ran my day release. Unfortunately the waiting list was really long so I spoke to a careers advisor who helped me set up home learning and I learned for a year at night time while looking after my daughter during the day.
I then was able to find a job that would fund my further studying which I am still doing at night time now.
Don't know whether there is any flexibility? What kind of apprenticeship? xx0 -
Sorry just re-read your post - how is the NVQ in Childcare setup? How many days is she at college a week?0
