Is there a way to view a route using street view without keep clicking on the forward arrows.

I believe there's a 'walkthrough' or 'demo' mode which does just this - am I getting this confused with Google Earth (program) rather than simply Google Maps (website)?
Also, you can press the up arrow key to follow the route instead of clicking...0
