I have been onto which car website and got a valuation for my 04 plate car and it came back as £900 which i was quite shocked at , ive rang a few garages who buy cars not telling them about the £900 thing and they too are coming back saying they would buy my car off me some saying as low as £600 highest ive had is £1200 . I confused  as on ebay my car & reg are on for between £1700 -£3000 . I only got prices from garages who buy cars because i thought it would be less hassel than me selling it privatly . I am unsure what to price it at i need to get as much money for it as i can to buy my next car but are all these people on ebay & autotrader fooling themselves putting there cars on at such a high price

    What is it?
Just because its on sale on ebay for £1700 - £3000, doesn't mean it will sell. Some people refuse to admit their car isn't worth much and ask unrealistic prices for it.

Garages will always massively undervalue your car, they'll want to make a decent profit with headroom for haggling!

A good place to start for a car valuation would be parkers.co.uk , then autotrader, these two together should give you a reasonable idea of what you would expect your car to sell for.

I agree garages, or websites like we buy any car etc, will always offer you a very low amount as they will have to then sell the car on and expect to make a profit and cover their expenses.

By cutting out the hassle of selling privately, you are reducing the amount you will get from selling your car, because you are in a roundabout way paying somebody else to sell it for you.

BTW selling privately may be a lot easier than you realise.
