I searched for both these numbers on Google, but nothing came up so I am putting this on here for the benefit of others who may do a search on these numbers.

I received a text from +44********** which would be ***** ******, but it has been sent from the USA. The text said ‘IM IN HOPSPITAL SO RING 652 5334 at 16..45’.

Then about 40 minutes later I received a text message from ***** ******. The text said ‘I Ainley wants you to know they are in Royal Oldham Hospital. You can call them on ***********.’

I think I have made a mistake and these texts could have been sent to a wrong number. Can admin please delete this thread?

Because it had a +44 in front of the number. And the first number it tells you to ring 652 5334 is an American number.

    I thought +44 was UK ?

EDIT: Oh - I see what you mean. Because the number had +44 in front, you think it originated outside of the UK ? For reference - most of my numbers in my phone have +44 (that way, if I am out of the country I can still call them) but they are still perfectly valid within the UK

Erm...no, just because it has +44 infront, doesn't mean it came from the states, you do know that +44 is the UK dialing code, don't you? +001 is the USA dialing code...

And if you put *** infront of the *** ****, you get the ***** ****** Hospital... (I've just tried it)

Well maybe I have made a mistake but either way it seems a little dodgy to get two texts from two different numbers asking me to ring someone in hospital who I don't know at a very specific time - 16.45?

What can possibly be dodgy about it? The number they've asked you to call is a normal, UK landline.

Have you thought perhaps that one person has given the other person the phone number and which is why they've both got it wrong?

Personally, for the cost of a text, I'd text the first one back and say they have sent it to the wrong number...

It'd also be good to edit out the numbers in your above posts, seeing that it's NOT a scam...

The scam is that they want you to call the 070 number which is premium rate. When you call the number it appears that the call isn't answered, but in actual fact it is a recording of a phone ringing. So it has been answered, and you are being charged at a premium rate. Because the phone wasn't answered you keep calling back, and each time you get charged at the premium rate.

There are loads of scams like this on Gumtree. Just have a look through at all the adverts where the price looks very cheap. Most of them will have a 070 number.

On the basis that the first text could have been a genuine mistake I will edit it out of my posts. I will however leave the 070 number in on the basis that it is a premium number that isn't issued to ordinary mobile phone users.

    07 numbers are personal numbers.
