i wasnt worried UNTIL they sent me replacement cards for my two accs with a fraud warning thing on there, to say on the safe side we've brought forward the replacement date for the cards
if the info on there was for marketing purposes only then whyd my cards need changing!?!?!?!
The information may have been for marketing purposes i.e. what can we sell to that person, but it probably had enough details for an account at nationwide to be linked specifically to you which is why your cards have been replaced.
The letters they sent actually annoyed me.
1. Because they need to teach their staff about encryption of data on their laptops.
2. One of the letters had my name and address on it so I have to shred the damn thing.
I think as an account holder I'm going to complain to them online about the literature they sent out.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Al_Mac wrote:Could you repeat that in English:D Cards are replaced for various reasons. Change of branding, change of account type, fault found in a batch of chips, so unless they say it is because of this particular incident........
day 2 - second new card same circs
day 3 - letter saying my acc information was on the laptop
all the letter had the same type of letter 'fraud alert' and so close together leads me to believe that the laptop thing was why my cards were released
no other reason for my cards to be replaced under a fraud warningYes Your Dukeiness0 -
I was wondering....are your account details on every cheque you send?
NEVER send a cheque to a company and enclose your name and address or your identity will be stolen.
Moan if they send you a letter.
Moan if they dont.
Moan if they replace your card.
Moan if they dont.
Moan if..oh forget it.0 -
We bank with Nationwide but didn't receive a letter (well not in our name), the letter we received (and opened before realising) was for someone else but it was our address and as far as we know wasn't a member of the family who lived here before us.
It seemed rather ironic that a letter sent to reassure about security was sent to the wrong address.
If we havent received a letter does that mean our info wasnt on the laptop?0 -
ive got an account with them and ive not had a letterNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

It probably is nothing to worry about. YOUR information is probably on hundreds of laptops, I have the private details of tens of thousands of people on mine (since I run queries across live databases). YOUR informaiton may have been on other lapops stolen, on your old computers, on work computers etc. etc. YOUR informaiton is being traded every day and sent electronically everytime you cough ... lets get things into a little bit of perspecive.
Some people are totally paranoid about their security with institutions but the same people are often totally stupid about it in day to day situations. You are more likely to have your house broken into or have your car stolen, you are even more likely to be run over by a bus on the way to work ... but we are not as paranoid about that.
By the fact that you have received notification you now have the opportunity to address the problem by asking for new cards etc. (if they have not already replaced yours). Your PIN will not have been breached.

PS: I should add that everything on my laptop is fully encrypted ... if someon steals it, they get a laptop .. nothing else.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
