mileage allowance for first job centre interview

..was made redundant a couple of weeks ago with 50+ colleagues. Some have advsied me that they got a mileage allowance when they went for their first job centre interview. I was not offered this, but did not ask as I was unware i could claim anything.
Cannot find anything on any website, does anybody knowif this is standard practice?

..yep, the job centre gave some of my colleagues a mileage allowance payment..had it waiting for them when they arrived even!.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0

Do they live in very out of the way places? Because those are the only circumstances I have ever heard of for this happening. Not an expert on this area - but I really can't see it unless the travel distance is untoward0
