Alliance and Leicester allocating excess money?

Hi. I feel like I am going mad. Alliance and Leicester keep allocating money from my account for a day and then the next day it has returned. It started happening a while back but it is getting more and more often and this week has occured 3 times! I check my internet banking every morning to make sure that there is still money in the account! There isn't a regular amount and I can't predict when it will happen. I am living quite close to the edge financially at the minute so don't have a very big buffer and I don't have or want an overdraft.

When I checked my account this morning, £100 (approx) has been allocated. This has sent me overdrawn. It will all be correct again tomorrow but it means that today I have no money which has meant i've not been able to get bread from my local shop and can't go out tonight as planned! I have an accounts app on my iphone and keep track of everything on there as I cannot trust the online banking. I should be in at least £40 credit. Also the Account Balance, Avaliable Balance and Running Total are all different and none of them match what I expect it to say.

Although I am sent overdrawn I never get charged and like I said earlier things revert to what I expect the next day. I am moving all my SO and DD's to my Halifax account and I am going to close the A&L account as I just can't cope with the worry everytime I go to pay for something. I'm so paranoid of the money I expect to be there not being there!

Is anyone else experiencing or experienced this?

Also I have complaining about it to A&L and they didn't bother to reply.

The discrepancy will be due to debit card transactions and the earmarking/release of pre-authorisation/formal claiming of funds I suspect. However, this being a moneysaving website, could I make a comment on...

Are you sure that similar things won't happen with Halifax? Many banks operate the same way.
  • My Halifax account and my lloyds account before that have never allocated monies that weren't due to be debited and I don't recall it happening before the switch to Santander. I understand payments and DD's get allocated before showing in the running total. My issue is that more than is due to leave is being allocated and leaving me short of funds. I don't understand why it then comes back the next day? Why take it in the first place? Hope I'm explaining myself ok. Haven't heard of anyone else having the problem so was after some experiences from others.

I'm a little offended that as I am on a low income currently I am not entitled to have a night off from looking after my family or allowed an iPhone (which was a gift from my father). I feel very unfairly judged especially as things haven't always been like this. Unfortunately my family have suffered greatly due to the recession.
