Service was £460 and i needed 4 new tyres that came to £618. just out of warranty and thats £890..not cheap things to run are cars.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Was the service at a dealer? would have thought being out of warranty and independant would be able to do a cheaper service?

I spend what the car needs. When people are paying £3000/year in depreciation alone, and £1500 in fuel, forking out £100 for a couple of tyres and a couple of hundred for a cambelt is put into perspective.

And when you think what people will spend on a night out.:p

  • Not much... Everything done to schedule... Oil changes every 6k at cost of £12.50ish + 10-15mins of my time.... Oil's cheaper than metal so no excuse to scrimp.... ML will be dearer due to 7.5 litres of Fully Synth.

I get trade most places so it's just my time really.

~£140 a year for a service. That's about all it should need in 3 years :rotfl:

    £900/year depreciation though

£280 for new rubber after a couple of months. Expecting a couple of hundred come December for the annual service and maybe £50 for an MOT.

I am another member of the regualr oil and filter change club. I then change the air filter every second oil change and do the fuel filter every fourth oil change.

I always use OE filters and top spec oil. I may use a K/N air filter this time as they can be reused for years. I usually put on a complete set of tyres every two years if i rotate. I do change my oil every 5/6k, or roughly half the recommended interval. I have done this since i was a courier/private hire driver. And never had an engine blow up.

Everything else gets done as it needs it.

Current Mondeo is on original suspension, clutch etc.

Hasn't had a multibelt since i bought the car well over 60k ago and it is still quietish!

Noticed a little bit of rust on the original backbox but no leaks so it will stay on till it leaks.

Everything else tends to get replaced if mt MOT bloke says it needs it soon.

An oil change and filter cost me about £35 depending on the exact oil specs, but i have spotted a nice Comma oil in Fors 5w30 fully synthetic flavour for £17 and i will probably use that next time.

I reckon i spend less than £200 a year if you factor in tyres, but i do over 25000 miles a year.

I did have to put two handbrake cables and rear discs and pads on for the MOT but the front discs and pads are on there since before i bought it.

I may treat her to new poly bushes in the rear subframe, new shocks all round and new front lower wishbones later this year. Maybe a set of alloys to spoil the old girl, or maybe just get rid, a the miles it has done, not far off 170k now, mean a few big bills are on the way.

I must admit that i have not had a major component failure on a car for many years, and come to think about it that was a company car.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
