Have you tried Nationwide? I'm told their Flex account is easy to open if you visit a branch with proof of ID (utility bills / driving licence or passport etc).

If it's just a card of some kind you're after, have you considered pre-paid debit cards? As an example, there's one called "Escape" which is linked to "Phones4U" and is easy to top up. There are fees of course, and restrictions on how much you can top-up until your identity is verified.

They're not a perfect solution, but might be worth considering.

I've tried nationwide ..they declined me...:(

Pre-paid ain't an option for me ...as I use debit or cards everyday to buy things on-line.

I'm going to try my last option tomorrow..... Barclay's.....fingers crossed.

i have a co-op account with the debit card and have used it at tesco pay at the pump with no problems

Did you start off as a Visa Debit or get upgraded to it from an Electron.

There is a thread on here talking about Asda not taking Visa Debit, it seems to be an issue with the Asda computer system i think.

I haven't tried Tesco for a while as i use Esso diesel mostly, but i tried Essoo pay at the oump.yesterday and it wasn't accepted.

Would it be easier if I would to apply for a SOLO Card ? If so what Banks offer this with no credit rating ?

I've also checked out http://www.mycashplus.co.uk/top-up-card/default.aspx But they charge £5 a month just to use there card ...:(

Any bank that offers a BASIC account wont usually credit check they'll I.D/Fraud check and as others have said since your not on the electoral role yet you WILL be refused

all these applications as well will show on your files.

So could I just put my self on the electoral today and try and apply for this account again?

I can confirm that the Coop is now a full Visa Debit, but is still not recongnised by pay at the pump systems at Esso or Tesco.

It is recognised at Tesco pay at the pumps, I have used it many times and had no problems.
