Don`t worry, this is quite normal, as long as you are on the electoral roll you should be fine.

    I'm not ...:(

If you are not on the electoral roll then unfortunately you will be lucky to get an account.:o

I've just received a letter stating that my application was declined ...for Co-op Cashminder Account (visa debit) ....I thought they don't do a credit check .....Seems like they Do...

I'm still also going thru the application with Barclays ..as they want to see my passport and a utility bill. But I have a feeling it will be the same thing......:(

As long as you told them you are BR then it was probably the electoral role thingy that stopped you getting the account. Hopefully Barclays will come through for you though.

I can confirm that the Coop is now a full Visa Debit, but is still not recongnised by pay at the pump systems at Esso or Tesco.

As i said in one of my earlier posts, if you are not on the electoral roll then you will not get an account with the coop, they do not credit check, what is the point of that when you tell them that you are BR?

Have you tried Nationwide? I'm told their Flex account is easy to open if you visit a branch with proof of ID (utility bills / driving licence or passport etc).

If it's just a card of some kind you're after, have you considered pre-paid debit cards? As an example, there's one called "Escape" which is linked to "Phones4U" and is easy to top up. There are fees of course, and restrictions on how much you can top-up until your identity is verified.

They're not a perfect solution, but might be worth considering.

Can you get yourself on the electrol register?

If you go down the route of a pre-paid credit card then the Cashplus Gold Mastercard is by far the best option, it even offers protection which a lot of the pre paids don't. Have a browse of their site.http://www.mycashplus.co.uk/default.aspx
