just by chance i had a look at the devices setting on my modem and found someone has been using my wifi 1 unknown and a Jerald TOSH, had a look at my security and all seems to be fine, security key protected and password protection, so how did they manage to get in. I have now changed all the pass words and pass key, but if they manage to get in again how do i stop them.

Using a BT Home Hub?
Best advice is to disable wireless, and enjoy the greater speed of an ethernet cable.
Failing that, use the best security possible:- if WPA2 is offered, then use that.
- If 'WEP' is the best offered, then ditch the router as this can be cracked in minutes or less
- Use a randomly generated wireless key to prevent brute force/dictionary attacks.
- Set it to only authorise devices you want with MAC filtering

no stick to windows firewall if you want a speedy pc, and neither will stop people using your wifi (if they really are)!!

If you are using WPA then they've not got in. They will be connected but their laptop will be sitting there asking for an IP address. The unknown might actually be one of your own computers - most routers put unknown until they've resolved the computer name and also games consoles get identified as unknown unless you've entered their MAC address manually so it knows.0

I have named everything that's using wifi tv printer and dd netbook so will see if anything untoward happens, is it a a good idea to turn the SSID broadcasting off though, will it affect anything in the house using the wifi0
