DVDs on eBay

Why is it so hard to find a genuine Region 2 new release DVD on eBay now.

I mean seriously, there are a few films that I'm trying to get hold of on DVD so I decided to check eBay to see if it would be cheaper. And well the answer is that they are cheaper, but thats because most of them are imports or just plain fake. For example I was looking fpr The Punisher (Staring John Travolta) and 5 out of the top 6 results were either imported copies or fake copies.

And it seems that because of this the few genuine copies seem to get bogged down and hard to find. And the thing that makes it worse is that no matter how many times I report the sellers that are selling fake ones eBay seem to do nothing about it as they keep listing more and more DVDs

  • My advice is avoid those type of sellers if they are selling copies.

As far as the Region 1 imports are concerned or other regions, in this day and age this should not be a problem as most dvd players can be made multi-region or are multi-region.

I've had this problem in the past. Try searching title and description as well and use "Region 2" in your search string. This will remove most of the dodgy ones.
  • Why not try going for the sealed ones aswell, most of the time those are genuine.

I also use play.com as somethimes they have some good bargins on there. :)
  • Try Find-dvd.co.uk - they price check all dvds for u.

Dvds are so cheap nowadays that sellers cannot make a profit on region 2 releases unless they are "used".

I was selling Return Of the King Extended and in the end had to sell it at cost price (£17.99).
No reliance should be placed on the above.

I sell dvds on ebay, originals, and it is very competitive. In fact I have been asked how I make any money lol. My answer is I do it for teh buzz not for riches.

People selling illegal copies are driving the prices down to such an extent that buyers are not prepared to pay for originals lol

I don't agree, you can make a profit if you buy a good original DVD at a good price thats usually in a sale. Pay to much and you will lose money.

I have been making on most of my sales well over 10% profit on most of my sales, thats after all the fees. I've had many thats made me 30-40% profit.

Im put off by many sellers on eBay as they dont seem genuine. The line "original factory sealed" means nothing to me. What factory were they made and sealed in exactly?

If the price is too cheap and good to be true then they are probably fake.

However I picked up a R2 used copy of Dogville recently for £4 inc postage, and an original The Manchurian Candidate on R3 for £4 too.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
