If blue tack removes the paint then youre going to have to fill it & paint over...my last landlord charged me a fortune to redo my sons room - complete con - I had been in there 7 years, but they refused to budge...luckily the idiot caclulated the deposit wrongly & ended up payin me back MORE than the original deposit even after deductions!! Karma I think its called!

I would ask the landlord to come round and inspect well before you move out - or alternatively put it right before you move out. The latter is a good option, if you have taken holes out of walls due to blue tack & you dont want a huge amount of attention drawn to those areas before you correct them as that will make the landlord look very carefully at how you repaired and repainted!

I find a good option is to use baby wipes on marks, also water down paint and paint over marks you cant remove, but sometimes th whole wall will need repainting.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but we've been renting my current house for 2 years and we'll be moving out in the next few months. We've made a fair amount of marks on the walls and I was dreading having to repaint the whole house before we leave - but some of these posts make me think we might not need to?! If we just wipe any dirty marks away, would that suffice?

And what can I do about the dreaded blu-tak peeling off a bit of paint with it?

Wipe the marks away and the problem is solved. That's called 'cleaning'.

I hate blu-tac and wouldn't dream of using it on my home's painted surfaces. I'd consider what you describe as damage (but I would turn a blind eye if you had been a good tenant for 2 years).

If it's still the original builder's paint job it may be deliberately thinned down paint which is what they use on new plaster. This type of paint finish marks very easily and is difficult to wash as the paint itself is easily washed off. Such a finish is only meant to be for the first year and then repainted. Could that be what you've got?

This sounds quite likely actually, I've never known anything like it really, the walls seem to scuff just by looking at them!

Assuming that the LL is an adult who isnt greedy and sees it as an opportunity to get something for nothing

To be fair my landlord has been great up to now, which is why we've been here nearly 3.5 years, with the previous 2 places I lived only lasting 12 and 17 months respectively (due to landlord issues).

It's actually a shame he wants to sell up when we move out, we could do with more landlords like him and less of the types that I had in my last two tenancies.
