Moving into a house with prepayment meter

Hello,
I am due to move house in just over one weeks time, and I currently pay my gas & electric by direct debit, however the new house has a prepayment meter for the gas and is with another company. Firstly, do I have to stay with my current supplier (Have been with them just over two years) as I have had a cheaper quote at the new address with a different company.
Secondly, how quick will they (if they will) change the prepayment meter to a normal one, as I don't want to be without gas? Would it be worth me ringing the current supplier of the new address for a prepayment card? :S
Many thanks in advance!

If you know the date you are moving in contact the current supplier and advise them of the date. They will need to issue you with a payment device for gas & elec. Also as soon as you move in read the meter and phone the supplier with these.
You should also ask about switching to a credit meter, they will do a credit check and may charge you to do it.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
