Hi
My pc upstairs over 10 years old is still going strong and over the years have updated operating system/maxed out ram/added extra hard drive and following the excellent thread from closed it generally runs well.
However with all my photos and hd camcorder its running out of hard drive again and editing movies takes an age… and to be honest the 1.8 celeron was never the fastest anyway but best I could afford at the time.
The pc is never turned off, and sits there collecting emails etc 24/7.
So looking to replace however, laptops with i3 processors 3gb ram 320hd, appear the best I can get for my money. But desktops may have bigger hd’s but apart from that appear inferior.
So unsure what to buy?
Can anyone recommend a decent desktop for the money?

normally bang-per-buck, ease of upgrade and ease of maintenance make desktop better value, so as per your existing desktop, longevity is better too. Not many lappys are going to last anywhere near, especially the build quality of the cheaper ones. Along with those listed above, ebuyer usually have some pretty good deals on desktops...check them out......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

an ide-sata converter allows a sata drive to be used in an old system which only has an ide bus. the converters are only a couple of quid on ebay. make sure you get a converter that supports 2TB, and is either bidirectional, or works in the appropriate direction for your application (SATA drive to IDE bus)0 -
most users and/or applications won't need anywhere near 4GB of RAM, that *should* be enough for some pretty heavy video editing. You could start with that and a big external hdd, and upgrade RAM etc. bit by bit later if/when required........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
