wireless adaptor

I have an old dell pc which is really slow and I don't really want to go wireless with it or it will be even slower.
However - my mum has just bought an Archos tablet for my daughter so wireless is needed. (I'm with Virgin). Virgin sent a router (D Link) which I thought I could just set up and be away. Nope! the tablet can find the wireless but says its disabled. Virgin say I need a wireless adaptor. (which I can buy from amazon - seems to be the cheapest). Questions:
1. Do I need the adaptor as I don't want wireless on the PC.
2. If I don't need one how do I enable wireless.
My thinking is to run the PC as connecte direct and to run the tablet as wireless. Is this possible?
Any clever ones out there on a Saturday night?
Any help gratefully received!!!!

No you don't need a wireless adapter if you're happy with your wired connection.
The wireless is probably disabled by default, so you'll need to go into the setup from a wired connection, which the documentation with it should tell you how to do, and enable it. Make sure you enable some level of security too unless you want to give your neighbours internet access at your expense!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Does your Virgin broadband have an Ethernet (rectangular with 8 small pins) socket ?
Do they supply a cable to link to the D-Link ?
Does the D-Link have a connection to the Virgin Broadband and about 4 other connections ?
Did you get some instructions with the D-Link and have you followed them ?0 -
If your pc is slow, post a hijackthis log, and details of installed ram (physical ram total) and commit charge which can be found in task manager, performance then follow this

There's not much in the set up -just put the disk in and 4 steps. (run and click).
Does anyone know how to get into the settings and enable?
I have wired the ethernet in to the back of the computer and in to the router. and wired the modem in to the computer.
So have
modem (white wire) - router (blue wire) - computer
But showing disabled. I'm convinced i just need to switch something on but I don't know what.
Thanks for your help so far.0 -

The D-link site has a web based setup utility at http://support.dlink.com/emulators/wbr2310/index.htm.
If you have no luck running that, post the router model on here and I'm sure someone will be able to help.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
