Pc Component fault or virus ?

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me. My PC seems to be taking longer and longer to turn on. When I turn the electricity on at the wall plug a small green light at the back flashes on and off. Once the green light is constantly on I can press the button on the front of the computer and it will power up and everything will load as normal. It will not turn on while the green light is flashing. A few days ago I was waiting approx 5-10 mins for the light to be steady...and it seems to take longer every morning. Today it was 5 hours before I could switch the computer on.

Any ideas please??

TIA

Well definitely hardware related, the flashing green light usually means "power supply problem". Could be any aspect from the actual PSU, the connections, to the motherboard, etc.

I'll leave others to make suggestions on troubleshooting.

Try unplugging the PC and holding the start button down for a good 10-15 seconds which will kill the power to the board.

Thank you I will give it a try tomorrow morning when I start it up again. Failing that should I leave it on over night?

    Thanks

Is the "When I turn the electricity on at the wall plug a small green light at the back flashes on and off. Once the green light is constantly on I can press the button on the front of the computer and it will power up and everything will load as normal." next to the ethernet cable perhaps ?
    Just a question for now...

Does sound like your PSU is dying, not common in a 4 year old PC, but not unknown either. An easy 30 minute job to change it yourself.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
