Hi Folks,
I have googled loads, tried loads but I cannot get them to work together.
The Vista PC can ping the Win7 one.
They are both on same Workgroup MSHOME (not Homegroup thing).
Changed encryption to 128-bit.
Has anybod got this working please?
It is supposed to work.
Am I left paying £100 to buy a 3 user licence Win7 so all house PCs are on the same Windows type?
I really hope not. Any help would be really great from you genii.

Why are you applying encryption for a home network?
Disable all the Simple File Sharing and Homegroup crap, then map the drive manually.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
They aren't applying encryption. AUTHENTICATION is done in 128 bit by default and there is no need to lower it at all. And as even XP supports 128 bit, there's no need to drop it to 60bit.
In Network and Sharing Center....
Either disable password protected sharing and set the access to anyone with network access or on each machine, make sure they've got the same accounts set up on both with the same usernames and password as on the other machine.
No need to disable Homegroup, no need to map drives manually.0 -
Hi,
I don't have password protection on. Where do I set access to anyone please?
I have same accounts on both machines.
Still no different.
Cheers for the help thus far.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

I assume you are trying to connect through a router, and not an adhoc wireless connection between the two laptops.
Have you shared out any folders yet. If you don't, there will be nothing to connect to.0 -
I've had exactly the same problem. Eventually managed to Google a page (can't remember which, unfortunately) that explained about setting the share facility for folders.
Eventually, on each computer, I right-clicked on my C Drive icon in "Computer" and the on the Sharing tab and then on Advanced Sharing. This then allowed me to set the sharing for the C: Drives and it worked from thereon.
Hope this helps - I'm afraid it was all a bit hit-and-miss with me and I consider myself reasonably computer-savvy!
Maybe others will come along with more detailed advice and explanations.0 -

They all show as shared.
I will have another go at sharing them tonight.
