My mother in Law has a 59 plate Astra 1.8 auto, which according to all the guides out there is meant to do 36 ish. But over the last 11,000 miles shes got 26.9. Shes been advised this week by her GP not to drive for 4 weeks, so I took the car off her and have been using it myself and it really is horrendous on fuel. I've been getting 28mpg out of it at the most.
Tht's terrible! I get about 28mpg out of stonking huge landcruiser auto (3.0 diesel) 8 seater.

I posted 64.5mpg average for my Citroen 1.4hdi at 6.30pm on this site and the range was 59.5-62.3mpg. Looked at the site 3 hours later and the range was 49.5-80.7!! So I am beginning to wonder how seriously people are treating the figures. I got 79.9mpg once on the brim to brim method, I do not know how anyone can average 80.7mpg with this car and engine?

That is bloody good mileage but what on earth is the brim to brim method?

Just googled it and feel considerably enlightened.

There are two variants to this model, I have the 140bhp one. It does 3 to 5 mile around town school trips mostly and averages between 27 and 30. We don't do many miles so it hardly matters but it is less than I thought it would achieve. With other mileage we probably chuck £60 a fortnight in it so about £30 a week. Swap for a 45mpg car and we save £10 a week. Not many auto cars average 45 mpg on such short trips around town though.

Works Zafira 120bhp Cdti Design spec, autobox- 17mpg.

Works-Astra 1.8 petrol, auto.- 31 mpg on last tank, used round London, but not driven hard, unlike above.

Mondeo Tdci, 130bhp-53.5mpg, school run and commuting in and out of London.

Clio 1.5dci, 68bhp version-recent figures 57.4mpg, used for work round and about urban areas. Took it to Southamptob loaded up and it did 52mpg! Ouch.

That's pretty good because the manual ones don't return much more than that. Poor engines economy wise but bulletproof.

    .

    :rotfl:

Surely the petrol would return that even driven hard?

Yeah, this one is the 140bhp one. I thought it'd be more like 115 ish until I looked it up!

Good thing about it though is it is fast as hell off the line! It will burn most chavs off no problem! :)
