Fake Make up on Ebay

Hi, I would like your opinion on this one. On Thursday, I purchased Benefit Porefessional make up at a greatly reduced price (£4.69) retails at £23. I received item on Friday and was impressed with speed of delivery. When I opened product the seal on the tube was not fixed and the product was definetly not as described. I contacted the seller and explained I have used this product for a long time and I know what is in the tube is not what I ordered. He explained that he buys his stock from a reputable beauty retailer wholesale and that is why they are so cheap and are 100% genuine. He said if I returned the product he would refund me and refund the postage as well, and asked me not to leave negative feedback. I have had a further e mail today to say that I can keep the product and he has in fact refunded my money to paypal, he also insists it is genuine (its not) and again pleaded with me not to leave negative feedback. Any thoughts on this???

You might get better answers on the ebay forum.
I think you'd need to look at his sales numbers and feedback.
If this is a one off then he should still have excellent feedback. If he's in the business of selling fakes he won't have good feedback as some people will leave a -ve on principle for counterfeit goods.
So the first step is to look at his feedback and see what people say if he has negs or neutrals. Of course, if he's new this won't work. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
First thoughts, they know fine well it is a fake product. Who knows what might be in it ? I would be considering contacting trading standards I I knew it was definitely dodgy. Feedback would also help others decide, as long as you are sure.0

I probably wouldnt buy toletries or make up from ebay for this very reason, and I have sensative skin.If it seems too good to be true,it is.

Amongst other things it says benefit do not sell to wholesalers. Some good tips there.Another link I read also said fakes often have a dot over the i in benefit, while the real stuff doesnt.

Fred will now sum up for the Greedy.
OP wanted some expensive < insert desirable object here > Googled it on net and hey Presto up came BarGuns. OP ordered said BarGun and excitedly it arrived in all its shimmering Goldness.
Soon afterwards, the sheen had gone and it was revealed in its true ugliness.
Morale.

I think most of us realise that paying £4.69 for a £23 product means there is something amiss with it.0

Indeed.
Unfortunately some people don't realise that, in reality, 'getting great bargains on ebay' means (for new goods, at least), getting something for a few percent less than elsewhere, not getting it at half price or less. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I'm a Wonder Woman fan (re the avatar!) and there's been some Wonder Woman MAC items from a Hong Kong seller at silly prices. I know there are some fake MAC items out there, and ebay's riddled with counterfeit goods, but assumed the limited edition stuff would be harder to copy.
Shame.. (Never bothered bidding, though)!0 -

100% agree.
But I must admit like many no doubt I have bought items I know full well aren't really going to be brilliant, but for a bargain price it is sometimes worth taking a punt, particularly if it is an alternative to the overpriced official product.
Obviously there are some items you should never go unofficial on for safety reason, but just once or twice that unofficial product does prove to be a bargain.0
